Alma Ramirez was born in Ventura County and resides in Oak View, CA. She is the daughter of a farmworker family from Washington State. In 1998 after returning to California, her father started a nursery business. Since her infancy, Alma has had a passion for horticulture. After graduating from Ventura College, she attended Cal Poly Pomona and CSUCI. Her community continues to be a great source of strength and inspiration. As a member of the Oak View Civic Council, she has volunteered in community events and local initiatives as well. She met Ted and Judy Lucas through a mutual friend, Susan Geiger. Together, Susan and Alma spent nights cooking and baking ginger snaps for Friends of Fieldworkers families.
As a way to honor her late friend Susan after her passing, Alma joined Judy in the Spanish translation of the book “Friends of Fieldworkers: Personal stories of Triumph, Tears and Invisibility.”
