Born and raised in Tulare County, near the tiny town of Plainview, California, Kelly Brown has deep roots in the agricultural community. Growing up on a small family farm where everyone pitched in, Kelly gained firsthand experience in the agricultural sector, working alongside her grandparents picking seasonal crops and tending to their own persimmon orchard. With Plainview's population predominantly engaged in agriculture, Kelly learned the value of hard work and resilience from an early age.
In pursuit of broader opportunities, Kelly ventured to Ventura, California, as a teenager in 1990. It was there that Kelly met her future husband while attending Ventura High School. Together, they built a successful plumbing business, while Kelly carved out a career path in the banking industry, eventually transitioning to nonprofit work at Interface Children and Family Services in 2010. Currently serving as the Community Information Officer at Interface, Kelly brings over a decade of experience in nonprofit management to the board of Friends of Fieldworkers. In her role, she advocates for vulnerable families, drawing from her own experiences of navigating social service programs during times of need.
With two teenage sons and a shared commitment to community service, Kelly and her family reside in Newbury Park. She is excited to join the board of Friends of Fieldworkers, recognizing the enduring importance of supporting farmworkers and their families. From standing in line for food assistance to advocating for essential resources, Kelly has firsthand insight into the challenges faced by agricultural communities. Kelly eagerly looks forward to contributing her expertise and passion to the vital work of Friends of Fieldworkers, ensuring that the needs of farmworkers are heard and addressed.
