These will be given out alongside the children's gift distribution with Oxnard PAL in the Southwinds neighborhood, which is mostly agricultural workers and their families.
How does it work?
Farmworker families in Ventura County who are struggling this holiday season will submit a wishlist, we will pair the wishlist with a local sponsor who will then purchase gifts for the family and deliver them to Friends of Fieldworkers in early December. Delivery dates will range from 12/05 - 12/14 depending on the school that referred the family, as each as their own collection date.
What is the cost?
Sponsors agree to spend a minimum of $50 per person (therefore a family of 5 is minimum $250). Instead of a max spending limit (like previous years) we ask each sponsor to purchase three gifts per child, one from each category: a WANT, a NEED and a READ. Kids will have already provided a list for each category.
Can I buy more than three gifts?
To ensure that all families receive a fair amount, we ask that each child have three items to unwrap. Many are collecting their gifts in group environments and will be able to see if some families receive a lot more than others.
How are these families selected?
We are working with local school districts that will select families based on need. All families participating have one or both parents who work in the fields.
